about

‘Krottos’: Proto-Celtic derivative of the word ‘crwth’, an archaic Welsh stringed instrument with modal tunings, typically gg´c´c´´d´d´´ | a track of plucked, flicked string cycles looped out of its bulged chamber into the bow.

Inspired by a circular journey following Whiteadder Water over hills in sun and wind to Edin’s Hall Broch, a rare lowland example of an Iron Age stone encircling with dense, doubled stone walls - located close to the parish of Abbey St Bathans, Duns. A mythic remapping as home to three-headed giant ‘Red Ettin’, a talisman in a time of change reflected by the George Henderson poem ‘Bonny Burnside’ which can be heard as a reworked lament in track i. Archaeological undertow notes, a deep mix of resonators passing down through home floorboards.
